Understanding domestic violence and its impacts on the accused

Domestic violence is defined as being a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship. This conduct is frequently used for one partner to gain or maintain power or control over his or her intimate partner. Domestic violence can come is a variety of forms. It can be physical, sexual, emotional, economical or psychological.

One should also note that threats of actions use to influence another are also considered to be domestic violence. This includes acts such as those behaviors that intimidate, manipulate, humiliate, terrorize, frighten, isolate, threaten, coerce, blame, injure, hurt or wound another person.

Domestic violence does not just impact those involved in the altercation. It has the tendency of affecting family members, friends, colleagues, witnesses and the community at large. Thus, even facing allegations of this crime could result in substantial consequences for the accused. Thus, determining the best strategies for a criminal defense is imperative. Doing so could help reduce or dismiss the charges against a defendant; even helping them rebuild and repair their damaged relationships.
