It is important for all criminal defense options to be fully understood when an individual is facing serious drug charges. A man was recently charged in a nearby community north of Upper Malboro with traffic offenses and drug charges. According to authorities, the 46-year old man is facing drug charges after police stopped him for failing to wear a seat belt. The traffic stop resulted in the man facing multiple drug charges, as well as traffic charges. According to authorities, the man was driving with a suspended license.
The police searched the man's vehicle and reported that they found 24 vials they suspect is cocaine, capsules they suspect contain heroin and 2 one dollar bills that were tightly wrapped and they suspect contain heroin. The man was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession with the intent to sell. Drug charges carry stiff penalties which is why an important part of our criminal justice system is the right of any individual accused of a crime to present a defense against the charges they are facing.
There are important requirements that must be met for authorities to make an arrest and perform a search. Whenever the police fail to follow procedures they are required to follow, and the accused individual's rights are violated, there sometimes becomes a concern about the legality of the actions that were taken and the alleged evidence that is being used against the accused individual. A violation of police procedures and the rights of an accused party may lead to important challenges and to the questioning of facts which can be important parts of a strong criminal defense. It can be important, for instance, to have evidence independently tested in some circumstances.
An overall strong criminal defense strategy is important to preserve the rights of any accused individual. Criminal charges, including drug charges, threaten the freedom and future of an accused individual which is why it is important for accused individuals to be aware of their criminal defense rights.
