On May 28, a 60-year Maryland man was arrested on drug charges when authorities raided two housing complexes in Annapolis. The operation yielded approximately $50,000 worth of cocaine and heroin and more than $1,100 in cash.
According to authorities, investigators from the Annapolis Police Department were alerted to illegal drug sales and gun crimes taking place in the Harbour House and Robinwood housing communities. Officers say they observed the defendant engaging in alleged illegal drug activity while standing by a white car near the intersection of Brashears Street and Monroe Street. A K-9 officer inspected the area around his vehicle and signaled the presence of drugs.
Officers reportedly searched the car and seized 261 grams of heroin, 124 grams of crack cocaine, 44 grams of powder cocaine and 5 fluid ounces of PCP, which had a total combined street value of around $53,200. They also seized $1,130 in cash and confiscated the car, a Ford Crown Victoria. The defendant was taken into custody and charged with possession of a large amount of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with the intent to distribute narcotics, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the Jennifer Road Detention Center for processing and released on a $25,000 bond. The investigation was partially funded by the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention and was assisted by federal law enforcement agencies.
Drug charges can lead to serious consequences, including incarceration, heavy fines and the forfeiture of personal property. By working with a criminal defense attorney, a defendant might be able to successfully fight the allegations and get the charges reduced or dismissed.
