Most Maryland residents know about the severe nature of child sexual abuse crimes. They also know that there has been a very strong effort on both the federal and state levels to introduce legislation to help prevent this kind of abuse from happening. However, many people may be unaware of the type of conduct that can result in sexual assault charges. So here is a brief look at these types of actions.
There are very specific behaviors between an adult and a child that are prohibited. These include fondling, which is to touch or caress with a sexual connotation. Additional prohibited behaviors include forcing a child to touch an adult's private area as well as penetrating a child's anus or vagina with a penis or any other kind of object that does not have a medical application.
There are also non-touching sexually offensive behaviors that are forbidden. These include exposing one's private area to a child or walking around in the nude in front of a child. Other forbidden types of behaviors are exposing a child to pornography and deliberately exposing a child to any type of sexual act. It is also illegal to masturbate in front of a child.
Child sexual abuse charges can also result from acts of child sexual exploitation. Charges in this area can stem from forcing a child into acts of prostitution or using a child for the purpose of filming, modeling or photographing pornography.
As defined above, child sexual abuse can come in many forms. However, any Maryland resident who has been charged with any type of child sexual abuse crime may want to speak with a criminal defense attorney in order to find out what the ramifications of these charges are.
