Former basketball player faces drug charges

On Behalf of | Mar 21, 2018 | Drug Charges

In February 2018, former basketball player Glen “Big Baby” Davis was taken into custody by Maryland police. The incident took place on Feb. 7 after the owner of the hotel that he was staying at detected an odor of marijuana coming from his room. The owner eventually called police who did a search of the room after Davis consented to it.

The search yielded $92,164 in cash as well as 126 grams of marijuana. There was also a ledger and small baggies discovered in the room, which led authorities to believe that he was involved in the distribution of a controlled substance. Davis was ultimately charged with both drug possession and distribution, and he has a court date scheduled for April.

A person who is convicted of drug distributionor other drug crimes may face a variety of serious consequences. These may range from spending time in jail to paying a fine or doing community service. Furthermore, having a criminal conviction may make it harder to get a job or pursue other opportunities. Therefore, it may be a good idea to discuss the case with an attorney. An attorney may be able to create defenses to the charge.

Defenses may include asserting that there was no intent to distribute a controlled substance. It may also be possible to assert that an individual routinely carried large sums of cash as opposed to putting it in a bank. Furthermore, an attorney may argue that a ledger with names on it was used to keep track of debts related to legitimate business interests that had nothing to do with selling a controlled substance.
