Harford County shooting leads to drug and gun charges

On Behalf of | Apr 10, 2020 | Drug Charges

One of the issues with drug charges has nothing to do with the dangers involved in using them. Competition between drug dealers can lead to violence that destroys communities, and the transportation of drugs between jurisdictions can lead to new crimes in different states or counties.

A pair of teenagers from Havre de Grace were arrested after two people claim they robbed them during a drug deal. A 17-year-old boy and his 16-year-old brother allegedly pulled handguns on a pair of people from Bel Air who had come to buy marijuana.

Police responded to the sound of gunfire to find the apparent victims. One had apparently run for his car, allegedly leading one of the assailants to fire the weapon at him. The two boys were arrested for attempted first- and second-degree murder as well as armed robbery and other charges.

One of the issues at hand is the severity of the charges. Violent crime is rare in this part of Harford County and prosecutors are seeking adult charges against the boys. Charging minors as adults may increase the penalties faced by defendants.

People arrested after incidents like these probably have a lot of questions, while police and prosecutors are more interested in getting answers than giving them. This is why legal representation is very important from the beginning, as it is allowed by law from the moment of arrest.

A lawyer can work to free suspects or lessen the charges against them while they may feel helpless in custody or out on bail. An attorney can help people feel more empowered to face what is coming.
