Marijuana use has changed in Maryland, as it has in much of the country. Cannabis products are now legal for recreational use, not just for medical use. In some states, the use of marijuana is not legally permitted for any reason, but more and more states have been adopting laws. Maryland did so in the summer of 2023, making it a relatively recent change.
That said, marijuana legalization doesn’t mean that there are no longer any laws; there certainly are, and some of them revolve around the number of cannabis products a person can possess at one time. This is known as the “personal use amount.”
Different products have different limits
The limit depends on the type of cannabis product that you have. For instance, with cannabis flour, the limit is set at 1.5 ounces. But with concentrated cannabis, the limit is 12 grams. Furthermore, the total amount of cannabis cannot be over 750mg for edibles and other products of this nature.
Are there any other rules to be aware of?
Yes, there are many cannabis rules in place under the new law. For instance, selling marijuana is still illegal without a licensed dispensary. Additionally, buying or possessing marijuana is illegal while under 21. Drivers need to remember that they could still face impaired driving charges if they are operating their vehicles after using marijuana.
As you can see, the laws may have changed, but there is still the potential for marijuana-related arrests. Those who find themselves facing charges must understand all of the legal options at their disposal.
