Maryland, like many other states, has legalized marijuana for recreational use. It is no longer the explicitly banned substance that it once was. People can simply purchase it from a dispensary, and they are not breaking the law to smoke or consume edible products.
However, it is important for people to understand that this does not mean there are no restrictions at all. Although marijuana is legal for recreational use, it is still heavily regulated. There are many different ways you could be arrested on marijuana-related charges.
The age limit
For example, you need to be at least 21 years old to purchase or possess marijuana. If you buy it while you are underage, or if you give or sell marijuana products to someone else who is underage, that could result in charges.
Making sales
Speaking of selling marijuana, you are not legally allowed to do so. As noted above, this can only be done at dispensaries. So even though you can legally purchase the products, you could still be arrested for using them in an illegal manner if you are caught selling them to other people without authorization.
Driving infractions
Finally, it is very important for people who use marijuana to remember that, just like with alcohol, impaired driving is still prohibited. If someone is high behind the wheel when they get pulled over or get involved in an accident, they could certainly face impaired driving charges, even though the substances they consumed were legal on their own.
